Japan's WIDE (Widely Integrated Distributed Environment) Project comprises over 100 organizations including various corporations and universities, collaborating with foreign researchers from all the over the world. The challenge was to construct a globe-spanning 10 Gigabit network for researchers at the University of Tokyo and CERN, the world's largest particle physics laboratory in Geneva, to collaborate. Further extend the network transfers from Tokyo to Pittsburg to analyze the network transfers data between two Opteron-based servers over 30,000km apart, over multiple fiber trunks, routers, and switches. Key requirement was to use the highest capacity 10 Gigabit network-to-server adapter available. Chelsio T110 Protocol Engine for10 Gigabit Ethernet using TCP/IP Offload Engine (TOE).
