The Ministry of Education in Egypt (MoE) wanted to improve the delivery of education by equipping its 36,000 schools with operating systems and reliable computer software. With one in three Egyptians under the age of 14, huge potential exists for young people to benefit from new technology and enter the workforce equipped with IT skills. Previous initiatives involving computer suites in schools had been unsuccessful. The MoE has now entered a partnership with Microsoft to equip Egyptian children with the skills and experience they need to realize their full educational potential. Microsoft is also supporting a number of targeted initiatives designed to improve standards of teaching so as to raise educational attainment through e-learning and a new 'Smart schools' initiative in rural areas.
