Intel wanted to help its global product teams share information more effectively throughout its product development life cycle. Although Intel has seen the value of product management tools, its existing in-house solutions have been costly to manage and poorly accepted due to their lack of integration with existing enterprise technologies. Intel turned to its Xeon processor - based server technology and collaborated with Microsoft to develop a product life-cycle solution based on the Microsoft Office System. This solution, called Team Collaboration Tool, allows Intel to deploy and manage enterprisewide team workspaces. Rich functionality offered through the technologies of Microsoft Office Project Server 2003, Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003, and Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 improved the way teams collaborate, helping to improve product development and decrease time-to-market.
