Wholesale Communications Group (WCG) spent 15 months developing a billing and operational support system to replace existing internal systems. As it became apparent to the WCG board that the system could be marketed to customers as a solution to their billing, provisioning, payment, and client management needs, Emersion was created as a stand-alone entity. The Emersion software comprises a Web portal user interface that allows customers to access plans and services. It also features a powerful back-end engine that uses XML to interface with service providers' internal and customer management systems. The product was developed using Oracle BPEL Process Manager, a component of Oracle's Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) Suite, to satisfy the needs of customers selling complex products such as 3G mobile phone plans for Australia's retail market.
