The company wanted to address the demand for a vastly accelerated plant inspection process necessitated by legislative changes that disallowed plant transportation into the Netherlands without prior inspection at specific border locations by the PD and the private inspection organizations that work on assignment for the PD. The challenge was to create an electronic system to process inspection data sent from various field locations - even when coverage problems prevent immediate data transmissions. The company reduced plant inspection processing times from two days to 15 minutes with the creation of a mobile system based on Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) running Oracle Database Lite. It also streamlined processing and improved accuracy by reducing data input.
