Research shows that new users of digital cameras tend to store their pictures electronically and return to traditional printing after six to 12 months. The challenge for photographic specialist Foto Quelle is to maintain contact with customers through this transition and maximise future revenues from print services. To achieve this, the company created an application that helps customers arrange digital photos systematically, retrieve pictures easily, and create themed albums. The program, called PictureStar, is delivered free of charge. It was created using the Microsoft .NET Framework and Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, which reduces development time and costs, and provides support for automatic software upgrades.
