The OLAP Option to the Oracle Database provides a dimensional model in support of the styles of query and analysis that are common to business intelligence and other types of analytic applications. Oracle supports the dimensional model with both relational and multidimensional data types. Common to both implementations is the logical dimensional model. The dimensional model describes data in terms that are easily understandable by users of business intelligence applications. The dimensional model structures the data and includes constructs such as dimensions, hierarchies, attributes, cubes and measures. This model makes it easy for users to query and navigate data, and to define rich calculations including mathematical, statistical, time series and predictive functions such as forecasts.
