Oracle Locator, a feature of Oracle Database (Standard Edition, Standard Edition One, and Enterprise Edition), provides native data management, query, and analysis of location data, accessible through standard SQL. It provides a foundation for deploying location enabled business applications, partner-based Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and location-based services. Developers can extend existing Oracle-based tools and applications, since with Locator they can easily incorporate location information directly in their applications and services. This paper describes Oracle Locator features, including new features introduced in the first and second releases of Oracle Database 10g.
