Peer-to-Peer (P2P) file sharing has become increasingly popular over the past five years. Today, 70-85% of consumer broadband traffic is due to the use of P2P applications such as Kazaa and LimeWire. Though this development has clearly contributed to the upsurge in broadband adoption, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are paying a high price. Tackling P2P traffic has become the number-one bandwidth burden for network providers. Though content caching solutions are prevalent, current products typically don't address P2P content. Purchasing additional bandwidth is equally ineffective and costly: the more bandwidth available, the more bandwidth consumed by P2P clients.
