Security concerns prevented the Sparkasse Hanauerland savings and loan association in Germany from deploying a mobile communications solution. A product by Research In Motion was considered, but it could not deliver the advanced level of IT security the bank required. Instead, the bank implemented Windows Mobile version 5.0 and Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2004, which is part the Microsoft Forefront line of business security products. Now bank managers and board members have mobile access to e-mail and calendar information. Digital certificates on mobile devices and preauthentication at the network edge help protect critical data.
