Karlsruhe College of Education trains teachers in all subject disciplines. With the five other colleges in Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany, it forms a network that employs 1,200 lecturers and trains around 20,000 students each year. Colleges in Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany, each had disparate Information Technology (IT) systems that were individually managed, resulting in unnecessary duplication of effort and software licenses. The Microsoft Windows Server 2003 operating system, Microsoft SQL Server 2000, and Microsoft Identity Integration Server, all of which are part of Microsoft Windows Server System integrated server software. Microsoft Identity Integration Server acts as a bridge for information held in the colleges' Linux-based mail servers and the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) directories.
