Shelby County Health System (SCHS) was pressured to reorganize due to changes in industry and government policies, limited budgets, and expanding service requirements. This meant changes to its IT systems, as well as its IT staff. Still, SCHS had to ensure the availability of its critical medical information systems 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. With only one fulltime and one halftime employee to support a mixed-technology environment that included 250 client computers across six facilities, most IT staff time was spent solving problems. Working with Microsoft Certified Gold Partner Heartland Technology Solutions, SCHS implemented Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 Workgroup Edition and significantly reduced IT staff time spent on manual server maintenance.
