The joint venture, Sauber Petronas Engineering AG, was founded in 1996. This company not only develops and builds race-car engines, but also markets its technical expertise commercially. In early 1999, RED BULL SAUBER PETRONAS decided to improve the efficiency of day-to-day operations by implementing a standard ERP solution with integrated product lifecycle management. The Hinwil "Formula One factory" selected SAP software, mainly on account of its openness and its ability to support a process-oriented approach.
