The company wanted to make consumers' online shopping even more engaging and informative, many e-commerce retailers are seeking to enhance their Web sites with multimedia features such as video clips, audio files and photo slide shows so that shoppers can "Try before they buy." Munich, Germany-based software provider metaio GmbH provides Augmented Reality (AR) technology - built on the Microsoft platform - to enable consumers to blend photos of their actual surroundings with three-Dimensional (3D) models of a company's products for viewing in a Web browser. Using just a digital camera and the metaio AR technology, provided as a software service on the e-commerce retailer's Web site, shoppers can superimpose the 3D models on top of their chosen photo.
