TeacherTube.com, the free educational file sharing site for teachers and students, was an immediate success, with 100,000 unique visitors, 200,000 total visits, and 10 million hits after just one month of operation. Schools wanted a self-hosted version of TeacherTube, to eliminate the bandwidth consumption and slow performance of downloads over their often-modest Internet connections. And TeacherTube wanted to license its content and software for self-hosting, but few districts had expertise or investment in the Linux software on which the solution was based, greatly limiting the market appeal of self-hosted software on that platform. TeacherTube is now migrating its Web site to Microsoft technology and launching its self-hosted solution, TeacherTube Onsite, on Microsoft technology.
