A peer-to-peer network that included only one Internet-enabled PC and a single e-mail address hampered the ability of the non-profit Infant Development Program (IDP) to obtain critical treatment information for the children in their care and to communicate with their funding sources. Upgrading to a client-server network based on Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003, and Microsoft Windows XP Professional and Microsoft Office 2003 on the desktop provided IDP with Internet access for the entire organization and e-mail addresses for all employees and volunteers. IDP staff can now communicate more effectively with funding sources, the executive director can prepare funding applications more efficiently, and the staff and volunteers can spend more time caring for the children.
