Headquartered in Dusseldorf, Germany, Vodafone D2 serves 27 million mobile phone users. As a result of rapid growth, the company's IT infrastructure became increasingly complex and difficult to manage over time. It was also based on outdated technologies that were no longer supported by their manufacturers. To address these issues, Vodafone standardised its IT infrastructure at head office and eight branch offices using Microsoft technology. The server-side architecture was migrated to Microsoft Windows Server 2003, and 12,000 desktop machines to Microsoft Windows XP Professional. Vodafone and Tireno also introduced a Lifecycle Management System. The Lifecycle Management System acts as a central data pool for the administration of hard and software.
