Mobile workers and consumers alike have increasingly numerous ways to access these networks - via data-enabled cell phones, smartphones, PDAs, Ultra-Mobile Personal Computers (UMPCs) and notebook computers. In many cases, these same devices can also access the thousands of Wi-Fi hotspots which dot every major metropolitan area. The near term benefit underlying the increasing use of smartphones and data-enabled cell phones is high-speed data access which can be used to browse the public Internet, connect back to a corporate network or even watch television. This access creates huge security concerns for both consumers and the IT managers tasked with guarding their companies' confidential information.
