This paper gives an overview of SAS specific I/O characteristics and provides IBM System Storage recommendations. The recommendations are specific to SAS 9 on AIX 5L or Windows O/S with members of the IBM System Storage DS4000, DS6000, and DS8000 family as noted in the document. SAS has many product solutions such as SAS Enterprise Business Intelligence (EBI), SAS Revenue Optimization (RO), and Base SAS. This paper gives a high level SAS Solutions overview but does not attempt to describe in detail each solutions I/O characteristics. Rather, this paper attempts to provide guidance with the identification of SAS I/O characteristics.
