Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council is rated an excellent local authority and continually seeks new ways of delivering better public services. In 2003, the council surveyed the Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) market to find a solution that met its one-stop-shop contact centre strategy and provided round-the-clock services to residents through the Web or through its contact centre. The council had already selected Northgate's CRM software for use in the contact centre with Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004 as the most reliable and affordable integration solution for a council of its size. Instead of memorising up to 10 different telephone numbers for council services, residents of Basingstoke can make contact with their council's 22 business units through a single number.
