In the software development world there is little doubt about one thing: the sooner in the development life cycle a requirement is known, the easier it is to meet. This wisdom holds true for application manageability. It is easier and less expensive to design in manageability at the start. This is all fine and good, but for many software developers the real question is "Why should I add application manageability at all?" This paper will attempt to answer questions like this, as well as provide an overview of the techniques and technologies of building manageability into applications in general, and Windows .NET applications in specific.
