The Altoona Police Department (Altoona PD), which originated in 1947 as a one-person department, presently consists of one police chief, ten full-time officers, and three part-time officers. In order to combat higher costs, the department purchased cellular data cards to easily access its TraCS software as well as other applications, including the Internet, remotely. Implementing TraCS required the Altoona PD to purchase a new, secure server for hosting the application. Altoona PD turned to WatchGuard to provide network security. The Altoona PD selected WatchGuard's Firebox X Core (X700 model) Unified Threat Management security appliance.
