SAS/OR 9.1.3, Release 3.1 continues the initial release of a completely new suite of powerful, accessible optimization procedures. This roster of new procedures includes production versions of OPTMODEL for powerful and accessible building and solution of optimization models, OPTLP for linear optimization, and OPTQP for nonlinear optimization. New experimental features include the OPTMILP procedure for mixed-integer optimization and mixed-integer capabilities for the OPTMODEL procedure. This paper provides background information about the role of optimization and surveys the new SAS/OR optimization advances, highlighting their importance for organizations facing larger and more diverse problems in resource allocation, supply chain planning, and many other domains in which optimization plays a key role.
