Istituto Clinici di Perfezionamento (ICP) oversees the Vittore Buzzi children's hospital, the Orthopedic Trauma Center, and 22 local district hospitals around the city of Milan. ICP wanted to improve tracking of electronic medical equipment in a busy working environment. The challenge was to reduce the amount of paperwork and process complexity involved in managing maintenance schedules for medical equipment and implemented a new, flexible maintenance management system for the institutes' electronic medical equipment that integrates easily with the institutes' existing IT infrastructure. ICP implemented Oracle Database 10g, optimizing maintenance and management of all electronic medical equipment by fitting each item with Oracle RFID tags holding essential information about the machine's status.
