IMPAQ created Supplier Portal to help Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) maximise the efficiency benefits and savings of e-procurement. To help SMEs integrate their back-office systems with the IMPAQ Supplier Portal, the company created spConnect, which allows customers to view purchase orders, check outstanding invoices, and return messages to suppliers online. Because SMEs need access to new technologies that are easy to maintain and inexpensive, it was vital that IMPAQ provide spConnect as a self-provisioned system that could maintain itself without manual intervention. Using Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 as its core development environment, IMPAQ built the spConnect interfacing tool using the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0.
