ST Electronics (Info-Software Systems) provides command and control systems for law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical agencies. ST Electronics originally used C++, Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0, and proprietary protocols to build a Common Application Platform (CAP) for its first responder systems. To speed up development and lower costs for future applications, ST Electronics rebuilt the CAP using Microsoft Visual Studio Team System and the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0, including Windows Communication Foundation and Windows Presentation Foundation. The new CAP has 70 percent fewer lines of code, uses industry-standard protocols, and enables encrypted peer-to-peer networking among emergency responders.
