Zurich North America Commercial ("Zurich"), a commercial property-casualty insurance provider serving companies in Canada and the United States, is part of Zurich Financial Services, based in Zurich, Switzerland. Zurich includes 600 risk engineers who inspect sites and recommend changes to help minimize their customers' risk of loss. The risk engineers had been using a workflow based solution, but the organization needed a solution that would store data on a relational database and continue to provide replication. Zurich deployed a new solution based on Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and then upgraded to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, for the backend, SQL Server 2005 Express Edition for laptops in the field, and an application created using Microsoft Visual Studio 2003.
