The CGL Performance section contains requirements essential to a carrier-grade system that apply to the Linux kernel, core libraries, and tools. Performance requirements have significant bearing on application performance. Carrier grade applications have some unique requirements, although they also share many needs with more general applications. This paper does not make a distinction between hard real-time and soft real-time support in the Linux kernel. Real-time capabilities are defined in terms such as maximum scheduling latency.
