With 900 beds, five faculties, a general hospital, specialist pediatrics facilities, and three outpatient departments, Hospital Universitari Son Dureta is the largest health facility in Spain's Balearic Islands. The hospital wanted to meet regional government commitments to improve the speed and quality of healthcare delivery by creating a single, universally accessible electronic health record for each patient. The challenge was to insure the integrity of patient data and restrict access to authorized doctors, nurses, laboratory teams, and administrators. The hospital implemented Oracle Healthcare Transaction Base (Oracle HTB), an integrated software framework for creating an electronic health record system compliant with HL7 v.3, the international standard for collecting and storing healthcare data.
