Due to Network Address Translation (NAT) by modems or routers, service providers can't easily detect home network configurations or diagnose service problems and outages. A solution that allows providers of Internet-based services to more easily access subscriber home network configuration information would help them reduce the costs of troubleshooting and repairing services while enhancing customer service.
