IBM DB2 Universal Database for z/OS Version 8 now becomes a general purpose 64-bitexclusive database management system for large systems. The release breaks through many of the limits which have affected scalability and availability by delivering large address spaces with exploitation of 64-bit virtual addressing providing management of more data with bigger buffers in memory. DB2 for z/OS Version 8 also enhances distributed and dynamic applications through the provision of long SQL statement support and breaks barriers to family compatibility and application portability by introducing long name support.
