Modern Linux clusters are under increasing security threats. This paper will discuss various aspects of cluster network security, including: firewalls, ssh, Kerberos, stateful and stateless packet filtering, and newer kernel security features. A program that generates ipchains/iptables packet filtering rule sets from a simple configuration file is discussed. Computer clusters are installed in a wide range of environments. At one extreme, clusters can be part of an organization's internal network that has a thorough set of security measures in place.
