Modern embedded and hardware based solutions have become more and more a complex mix of hardware and software: pure Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) or Field Programmable Logic Arrays (FPGA) devices are not capable of capturing complex control logic that is evident in micro-controller based software. This paper explains a system, that is currently in production and does this. The paper explains how a tiny GNU/Linux based system controls the system and pre-parses the data. Finally, the paper details how it replaced a sub-optimal commercially based system to a completely free system and details the gains.
