Sumitomo Trust and Banking (STB) is an asset management and information-processing financial institution with operations in Asia, Europe, and the United States. Lately, the company found that its COBOL-based pension management system no longer met the demands created by changes in the industry. With help from CAC Corporation and Microsoft Services, STB created a Microsoft .NET-based solution using a service-oriented architecture. The new system's flexibility helps STB easily adapt to changes in pension regulations and more diverse customer needs. Previously paper-based processes now are done more conveniently and efficiently through the Internet. By using Microsoft .NET technology, the company has achieved low-cost, high-quality development, and it has reduced maintenance costs to between one-fourth and one-fifth of previous costs.
