Nowadays business climate demands ever-increasing responsiveness and flexibility from all parts of an organization. The challenge facing business and IT managers is to not only deliver new solutions, but to do so more rapidly and with fewer resources. Technologies such as the Internet that provide instant connectivity to varied data sources only serve to raise overall expectations of businesses and IT organizations alike. A Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) can be thought of as a layer of technology and applications that reside above an organization's existing legacy applications.
