The American National Insurance COmpany (ANICO), one of the nation's largest life insurance companies, wanted to move its data center to a more secure location. But the U.S.$1.32 million cost of replicating 132 server computers in the new environment was prohibitive. By deciding to use Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 to make its data center move, the company achieved a more than five-to-one consolidation of servers down to just 24 servers and decreased its costs by $1.1 million. Beyond providing cost savings, Virtual Server decreases the time for server deployment and rollback from hours to minutes, making it possible for ANICO to expand its development and testing of new internal applications and to make those applications more effective.
