This paper defines terminology for discussing the design and usage patterns for news aggregator applications. The work rests on a thorough analysis of available news aggregators and contextual inquiries with 34 users. The work explains approaches to aggregator user interface design and how those interfaces are employed. The results motivate the design of aggregators addressing these patterns.
