The Amsterdam Density Functional (ADF) package is a highly requested application in the work with IBM benchmarks. However, there was no official Linux on POWER version of the ADF package in 2006. So, the authors ported and tuned the ADF package to their IBM p575+ Linux platform. This paper describes the porting experience and compares the performance of the ADF package on both Linux and AIX to demonstrate the impact of different interconnects, file systems, and kernels. The results show that the ADF package has great performance and scalability on both platforms. In addition, the paper includes tips for troubleshooting and achieving better performance.
