The main purpose of the project explain in this paper was to test various EVA disk group configurations and determine the best configuration when running an Oracle 10g database with Automatic Storage Management (ASM). The introduction of Oracle ASM capabilities in Oracle 10g provided alternative storage management options to those available in the storage hardware alone. ASM provides some similar functionality to the HP StorageWorks EVA. Customers want to understand where the functionality overlaps, if they can co-exist, and if so, what is the best way to configure HP StorageWorks EVA storage to optimize application performance under various database workloads? A special look into the ASM disk group and EVA disk group configurations is the critical emphasis of the project.
