The advantage of 64-bit databases over their 31-bit predecessors is to allow the database administrators to define larger buffer pools for high database buffer hit ratio and best throughput performance. Optimum throughput was achieved when it used SCSI devices with ext2 filesystem. The SCSI device driver default setting for the ESS caching mode is appropriate for the small and highly randomized disk I/O of this workload.
