The purpose of this paper is to provide information about the security and integrity characteristics of the z/VM hypervisor. This paper is divided into four major sections. It examines first the issue of virtual machine integrity - that is, how virtual machines are isolated from each other and from the hypervisor functions of z/VM. Second, the security aspects of z/VM are discussed, including authentication and resource access controls. Third, it provides guidance on enhancing z/VM security and integrity. Finally, it briefly touches on Linux virtual sever security and its relationship to z/VM.
