UML is a widely used modeling standard for developing object-oriented systems; it stands for The OMG's Unified Modeling Language (UML). It is becoming more mature and integrated in many development methodologies. Confronted with a complex SAS/AF application, it was decided to turn to a real object-oriented approach, on a small scale and use a UML way to represent the model. It revealed to be helpful in building a better application architecture, with a simpler user interface and a concept of business layer classes. It allowed to divide the work among many programmers and to support full-fledged development standards. This paper establishes the link between the main UML diagrams and a SAS/AF application.
