An integral aspect of school violence is the presence and use of weapons. By Florida statute 230.32, students shall not possess, transport, handle, or transmit any object reasonably considered a weapon, instruments capable of inflicting bodily harm, incendiary devices, or contraband materials. Prohibited items include knives, firearms, clubs, pepper spray, chains, firecrackers, and martial arts weapons. Using student violence data generated at the school-, district-, and state level, comparative weapons violations displays were constructed using SAS 8.2. Using SAS/GRAPH, data displays were created utilizing PROC GCHART, PROC GPLOT, PROC GREPLAY, and PROC G3D. Factors of frequency, weapon type, school type (urban, rural, suburban), and school size (small, medium, large) revealed a visual summary of student violations.
