The Office Web Components consist of four components: the Spreadsheet Component, Chart Component, PivotTable Component and PivotChart Component. Each of these components includes Excel-like functionality and user interface. By using Office Web Components, users can publish to the Web and preserve much of the power and interactivity of Microsoft Excel. The Office Web Components are ActiveX controls which can be embedded in Web pages to provide Office-like functionality at the user level.
