Regulatory requirements are not new to the banking industry. But the number, complexity, and breadth of recent regulations have posed new challenges. Financial institutions often view Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) as an unwelcomed cost burden that gets in the way of achieving results. Forward-thinking organizations understand that having a complete grasp of enterprise risk is a source of business advantage. A capability model that includes people, processes, and systems is key to accomplishing these benefits. A flexible and adaptable GRC framework is needed to integrate heterogeneous systems and to weave end-to-end business processes, allowing enterprise wide strategies to be executed with greater ease and efficiency. Basel II and Sarbanes-Oxley are rapidly becoming accepted as a set of best practices in risk management.
