SWISSLOS operates lotteries in German-speaking Switzerland and required a new storage solution for its critical business data which would be usable and flexible over the long term. Because data loss would result in irreparable damage to its image and create immense liability problems, the new solution had to support uninterrupted operations, even in the event of a disaster, and fulfil strict legal requirements with regard to data archiving. The company implemented a Storage Area Network (SAN) for central storage of all data, backup server with an HP StorageWorks Tape Library and HP OpenView Storage Data Protector for data backup and security and data is mirrored in a second computer centre for disaster recovery.
