Solid Energy New Zealand Limited is a fast-growing resources company, with a core business in mining, marketing, and distributing New Zealand coal. When the company's core business returned to strong growth in 2001, it found that its fragmented ERP environment could not support an expanded business strategy based on increased exports, longer-term planning, and strategies to overcome physical plant and distribution network limitations. Specifically, Solid Energy was looking to create an IT platform that would deliver accessible management information; help to decrease costs by improving asset maintenance and productivity; enhance productivity and spur process reform and growth; and enable collaborative reporting across the enterprise. They selected Oracle E-Business Suite applications and Oracle technology as the IT foundation on which to build its future.
