St. Luke's Episcopal Health System has provided compassionate healthcare to Houstonians for almost five decades from its location in the heart of the Texas Medical Center. St. Luke wanted to reduce hardware expenditures required when SMP servers running McKesson patient care applications reached maximum capacity. The challenge was to keep care providers online 24/7 by eliminating downtime for upgrades and enhance disaster recovery strategies cost-effectively. St. Luke reduced hardware expenditures by deploying Oracle Database 10g with Real Application Clusters on Linux on low-cost Intel-based servers, per McKesson's advice.
