Business Continuity is the ability of a Company's people and systems to keep critical business processes functioning in the face of any disturbance. Every Business Continuity Strategy includes three fundamental components: risk assessment, contingency planning and the actual disaster recovery process. Business Continuity Planning should consider every type of interruption - from a brief power outage up to the worst possible natural disaster or terrorist attack. High Availability, Disaster Preparedness and Disaster Recovery are techniques applied to make the Business (in this case telecom operations) continue through adverse conditions. Central to good disaster preparedness is a thorough understanding of which business functions are most critical to the company's survival so that they can be properly protected.
