As hackers switch their attention to attacks on routers, router vendors are responding by increasing the levels of security available in their products. While there are many security measures that a network operator can take to secure their routers against external threats and attacks, these measures can only minimize the propagation of any threats or attacks on the rest of the network. Increasingly advanced router security mechanisms, together with other security devices and technologies such as firewalls, intrusion detection devices, and monitoring devices, allow network operators to be more confident that their networks, servers and applications are secure.
